Can you identify Gil's guitar?

Hi

Just wondering if you can recognise this guitar I had it in the early sixties bought it second hand, not a Fender. It had a body like a 335 and a headstock like a Strat but for the life of me cannot remember what make it was.

Sorry not a very good picture.

Thanks
Gil

Blimey. That's not a lot to go on (although it looks like someone has a Hofner in the background). Do you remember any other details? Did it have a vibrato? Was the neck glued-in or was it a bolt-on job? Did it have f-holes and what shape were they? For example, the Gibson Trini Lopez was 335-like with a 6-in-a-line headstock and with diagonal shaped soundholes, although from what I can see of the guitar in the photo, I don't think it is a Gibson. I don't think it's a Vox either, which could have been another contender.

Or - could it have been a Hagstrom guitar, similar to the Viking II that Elvis used in his 68 Comeback Special?

Anyone else? Answers and other thoughts on this in the comments, please.

More guitar madness from Antoniotsai

Elvis Love me Tender guitar
We've seen an Elvis guitar from Antoniaotsai before (not to mention his dreadful Jimi Hendrix guitar) but this time Elvis in full colour! Scary, huh?

I can appreciate the link between Elvis and the guitar. However, what the guitar connection is with Abraham Lincoln I have no idea!
Abe Lincoln guitar
I didn't think he played guitar?

A pair of rare plastic guitars on eBay

Here are a couple of finds for collectors.
Plastic Elvis Guitar
The first is an Elvis Presley plastic toy guitar, made in England by Selcol. I'm guessing its from the 1950s or early 1960s. It's a 4-stringer so some might want to classify it as a ukulele but I doubt very much that it's a player anyway.

Despite missing a couple of parts its in very good condition and would no doubt appeal to the collector of Elvis memorabilia.

Plastic Western GuitarOur second dates back to the 1950s, the era of cowboy movies, and is an American Western plastic toy guitar.

This looks to be in immaculate condition, and unlike the Elvis guitar, it is a 6-stringer and has all its string intact. However, I doubt it plays any better.

I love the various western motifs embossed into the top of the guitar. In particular, the guitar playing cowboy on the upper left could have been the inspiration for the decoration we saw on the Brandoni Telecaster recently.

Up for auction: Elvis Presley's 1958 Isana Black Pearl Acoustic Guitar
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Dallas-based "Heritage Auction Galleries" plans to auction a 1958 Isana Black Pearl Acoustic guitar once owned by Elvis. The guitar was purchased during his stint in the army. "Heritage" says it was one of less than 150 made that year and is believed to be the only guitar used by him while in the service. Years later it passed into the hands of friends and was eventually used to pay for tutoring fees by one of Elvis' secretaries. It's been on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, and at the Rock N Soul Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, for the past two years. Heritage Auction Galleries will hold their upcoming Signature auction on October 6 & 7, 2006, at their headquarters in Dallas, TX. The reserve amount is $150,000.
